Old Piney Dell Restaurant and Bar has long been one of the Red Lodge area's favorite spots for a special evening. Its rustic charm lies in the warm, cozy atmosphere, and its beautiful setting on the banks of Rock Creek.
The present Old Piney Dell Restaurant evolved from a Homesteader´s Cabin built in the 1920s which still forms the entry way and part of the kitchen. In the early 1930s the former mayor of Red Lodge, “Doc” Seigfriedt, built the Piney Dell Lodge. According to the book, Red Lodge, Saga of a Western Area, Seigfriedt encouraged the use of Piney Dell by various ethnic groups in Red Lodge as a community and cultural center for music and dance from the old countries. It was the place to go in Red Lodge until it was razed a few years later. It was first opened as a restaurant in the early 1940s. Various changes in ownership have added rooms here and there but from the days as a Dude Ranch with rustic cabins and horses, Old Piney Dell has maintained a true taste of history.
